HALOTHERAPY FAQ
-
What is Halotherapy?Halotherapy, also known as Dry Salt Therapy is a holistic approach that mimics the microclimate of a salt cave. Dry salt air is dispersed into an enclosed environment through a unique process generated by a halogenerator. This type of treatment is a safe and effective way of using salt's natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and super absorbent properties to provide relief for respiratory and skin conditions. When you heat salt, it becomes super dry, and kinetically more active. This heated and dry pure sodium chloride is then crushed into micro-sized particles and dispersed into the air in the salt booth. When micro-particles of dry salt is inhaled into the respiratory system, it does its job by absorbing and removing allergens, toxins and foreign substances in your lungs and throughout your respiratory tract, in the ear canal, sinus passage ways, and on the skin. Salt also reduces any inflammation and opens airway passages making it easier to breathe.
-
Why do you use glass salt booths instead of salt rooms for therapy? The booths are private and individualized, and the settings and treatment can be customized to each clients needs (not everyone has the same health needs). Salt therapy is not a one size fits all. Our chairs are designed to be sitting at the optimal position to take in the maximum amount of dry salt as possible into your lungs. When you are lying down or reclined, your body does not take in as much dry salt as you would want it to for a health concern. For just relaxation only that would be ok, but for health reasons sitting up straight is the optimal position. A room has multiple people in it at a time, so customization is not an option. Some of our customers are highly allergic to any kind of fragrance or smells and come to our salt therapy sessions to get relief from symptoms associated with sensitivity to fragrances. Others may have a smoker's cough or nagging cough they are trying to rid themselves of, so for all of those clients, individualized treatment is a must. And lets face it, some people just want privacy. Some people don't have the time to sit for 45-60 minutes in a room setting. Our salt booth provides the ultimate, private, and most effective halotherapy experience in just 15-20 minutes compared to 45-60 minutes needed for the same results in a salt room.
-
Is there research to support Halotherapy (dry salt therapy)?Yes, most research has been done in Europe where the treatment originated centuries ago. Ask us for the research and studies.
-
How does it work?Pure "dry" sodium chloride is heated and ground up in a machine called a halogenerator. The micro-sized crushed salt particles are then dispersed into the air in an enclosed environment, a Salt Booth. These particles of fine salt penetrate deep within the respiratory system and work to remove mucous build up and eliminate bacteria and toxins. This unique process helps open and expand the constricted airways allowing individuals to breathe easier and more clearly. Dry Salt Therapy also provides amazing skin rejuvenating benefits when the epidermis is exposed during treatment.
-
Is there any age restriction? No, there are no age restrictions. Any age, from a 6 week old baby to 100+ year old can use Halotherapy.
-
What are the benefits and conditions Halotherapy treats?Dry Salt Therapy has many positive effects on our respiratory, skin and immune systems. It reduces bronchial inflammation, thins and removes mucous from the lungs, as well as improves lung capacity and functionality. It also reduces skin inflammation, improves cellular rejuvenation and decreases itching and irritated skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Dry Salt Therapy has also been very successful in reducing stress as well as enhancing our cardiovascular system. In addition, those who suffer from the following conditions can greatly benefit from Halotherapy...Allergies, Emphysema, Asthma, Psoriasis, Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Bronchial Infections (COPD), Rhinitis, Chronic ENT illnesses, Sinus Infections, Cold/Flu, Sinusitis, Cystic Fibrosis, Smoker's Cough, Dermatitis, Snoring, Ear Infections, Stress and Fatigue, Eczema, Wheezing, and Athletic performance.
-
When should it be avoided? As Halotherapy is known as a safe and natural treatment, clients who have any serious health conditions or women who are pregnant should always seek proper medical advice from a doctor first. Halotherapy is not recommended for people who have the following conditions. *Infections associated with fever *Contagious diseases *Late stage lung cancer *Active tuberculosis *Cardiac disease patients *Acute respiratory disease *Severe hypertension *Chronic obstructive lung diseases *Intoxication
-
Are there any side effects?Normally there are no side effects. Some people might experience a scratchy throat or a tickle in their sinuses. Others who might be slightly more sensitive could experience a minor skin irritation, which tends to go away after a session or two. For those who experience a slight cough, this is a sign that the salt therapy is effectively working. The body is loosening and releasing all the mucous buildup.
-
What kind of salt is used?99.99% pure sodium chloride (Pharmaceutical grade salt). It contains no fillers or caking agents. It does come from a natural source but it is naturally processed to remove all of its impure elements. It's the same salt that hospitals use and is the same type of salt all the research has been conducted on. We do not recommend Himalayan or sea salt as it is not stripped of all the impurities. There could be dirt, clay or some type of debris that could be harmful to the lungs. It's very healthy for the digestive system but not for the respiratory system.
-
Are there any contraindications? No, there have been a number of clinical studies and research on halotherapy, and, to date, there are no known contraindications. However, because Halotherapy has a detoxifying effect by releasing toxins and bacteria from the body, people who are taking certain medications might want to wait until they are done with the medication. Always check with your doctor before starting any Salt Therapy treatments if you are taking any medications for severe conditions.
-
How many sessions/times a week is necessary?Halotherapy offers the best results when practiced regularly. The benefits are accumulative where consistency and frequency is the key. People with chronic issues will benefit greatly if visiting salt rooms at least 3-4 times a week. Those who are looking to incorporate Salt Therapy into their regular wellness routine would benefit from a weekly session. Halotherapy is safe to use on a daily basis if desired or needed.
-
Does the salt in Halotherapy effect issues related to diet, high blood pressure, and hypertension?"No, that type of salt intake is connected to the digestive tract. Dry Salt Therapy is different as it is associated with the respiratory system.
-
Does the salt "dry" or "hydrate" the respiratory system?"Neither. Salt is a mucoactive agent or natural expecterant that absorbs then expels mucus, pollutants, and bacteria. It does not "hydrate/lubricate" or "dry" the respiratory system, it cleanses it.
-
What is the treatment duration per session?20 minutes for the Halotherapy session.
-
What results can a client expect? Many clients who have asthma, allergies and other bronchial issues have seen some amazing results in a short period of time. Breathing became easier; more energy was experienced and just an overall better quality of life. Now we don’t make any medical claims about Dry Salt Therapy but after receiving treatments patient’s respiratory issues and lung function have vastly improved. In addition, those who have severe skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema or acne have also had incredible improvements in the health of their skin.
-
What will I experience when I sit in the salt booth?Salt booths are methodically designed in such a way so that people can relax in a soothing and tranquil environment. It’s a place where one can sit back and experience the salt treatment in a very peaceful and non-stressful setting. People can read, listen to music or nap if they want to.

What is the technology?Salt n’ Sauna Wellness is a member of the Salt Therapy Association and the World Halotherapy Association, and offers the newest and most state-of-the-art, personalized dry salt therapy booth available. Utilizing next generation technology, our Halo Booth provides the ultimate, private and most effective halotherapy experience in just 20 minutes, compared to a 45-60 minute salt room therapy session. It is powered by our high efficiency halogenerator, rated #1 in the industry. The modern designed booth was created to provide an effective and personalized dry salt therapy experience in a private, individual setting. A salt room without a hologenerator, unfortunately, can be commonplace within the industry. Salt decor and salt bricks do not provide any therapeutic health benefits whatsoever. If there is no halogenerator, there is no Halotherapy, therefore meaning no therapeutic health benefit (only an aesthetically pleasing environment). Our high efficien halogenerator mimics the microclimate of a salt cave by dispersing dry salt air into an enclosed environment. This type of treatment is a safe and effective way of using salt’s natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and super absorbent properties to provide relief for respiratory and skin conditions by reaching not only the main respiratory tract and the bronchi but also the bronchiole and alveoli. The particle size is between 0.1 and 5 microns, with 80% or greater smaller than 2 microns.
-
What size is the booth?82"H x 40"W x 48"D - you will be sitting inside the glass booth.
